Superman's return in Justice League

The following article will include spoilers from Batman v Superman and Man Of Steel, so if you haven't seen them yet and still want to continue, you've been warned. If the following incidents take place in Justice league, its purely a coincidence and will just prove that I'm awesome. I'm not a WB spy, just a DC fan, now let's get on with this.

Batman v Superman Dawn of justice ends with Superman sacrificing himself in order to save the world from Doomsday's wrath. Superman takes the kryptonite spear and stabs doomsday with it getting himself stabbed by doomsday's bone in the process. After that, there's a funeral scene and the movie ends with the sand from his coffin rising up.

My theory is that Superman never truly died. Kryptonians have two major weaknesses, one is exposure to this green mineral called kryptonite and the other being magic. There are other things that temporarily weaken them like exposure to the red sun. When he's being stabbed by doomsday neither of these things are being used.

Clark becomes weak after he destroys the world engine in Man Of Steel but his powers were regenerated because he was exposed to our yellow sun, soon after being wounded. Similarly, the dude was hit by a nuclear bomb and still survives it because he was floating in space and once again exposed to the yellow sun which healed his disfigured face and body. This kind of incident also happens in the graphic novel, the dark knight returns from which the movie draws its inspiration from, where Clark is wounded by a nuke but uses sunflowers to heal.

Doomsday's bones maybe Kryptonian but Clark is still on earth meaning as long as there is a yellow sun within his reach, he'll be back. Since he wasn't stabbed by the kryptonite spear, there's a huge chance that he didn't die, just temporarily disabled. One more fact which supports my theory is that he was wounded at night and he wasn't instantly back on his feet because there was no sun around. After exposing his body to the sun for one full day during the funeral, his body begins to heal slowly. Even when they were going to close his coffin, the coffin was exposed to the sun. The sand rises, proving that he's back.

So in Justice League, Clark is going to come out of the coffin, spend some time with Martha, and rethink about his place in this world. It's clear that this isn't Superman straight out of the comics but a more realistic modern-day take on Superman. Even when he tried to be the guy who just wanted to save innocent lives, give them hope and follow Jor-El, Johnathan knew earth better than Jor-El. Superman was constantly being asked by people to get out of the earth and had very few admirers. He was beaten by Bruce, hated by Luthor so anyone at his place would be done with earth. As Martha rightly said 'he doesn't owe the world a thing' and he's at liberty to be whoever he wants. He can still be a normal guy going to work, living with his wife and having a kid, but he chose to protect the earth and even after all that the least he can expect from people is some respect.

This is probably how Justice League should take on Superman given how they went with his take in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Instead, if they go with Darkseid regenerating him, making the other members of the league fight evil Superman, it's going to leave a lot of fans and critics unhappy. DC is usually so careful to get Batman right, they forget about Superman. Luckily, this universe was launched by Superman's origin story and Geoff Johns himself has quoted that 'hope, humor, heart, heroics and optimism' would be the focus of DCEU. If it is, then this is the perfect way to deal with Superman's absence in the justice league.

When the league is in trouble and things look dark, it would be nice to hear the skies crack open along with Hans Zimmer's iconic theme, with the man of steel saving the rest of the members instead of the skies cracking open being the main issue. After all, there is no Justice League without its rightful leader, Superman. Making Superman the villain is not going to be a very smart move. With Wonder Woman's success, fans expect a lot from Justice League and the best way to make justice league great is if they deal with Superman's return properly and do the character some justice.
