Top 5 Hans Zimmer soundtracks

Hans Zimmer is one of the most acclaimed composers of all time and definitely one of my favourite composers too, right up there with John Williams and AR Rahman. He has won an Oscar for his work on The Lion King and has been nominated on several other occasions. Out of all his iconic scores throughout his career, here are five tracks which I think you really need to have on your playlist. There are some minor spoilers ahead so, you've been warned.

5 - Flight (Man of steel)

Although the movie wasn't a major hit at the box office, it also had to bear the brunt of failure among critics, but we can all agree that it arguably has some of the best soundtracks ever. Other worthy mentions include 'earth', 'goodbye my son', 'terraforming', but personally, 'flight' stands out. There's just something so awesome about it. All that talk about hope from Jor El and Superman's first flight experience, one of the few instances where the visuals and the soundtrack blend in perfectly. Hans had a tough job because John Williams set such high standards when it came to Superman soundtracks but he more than lived up to the hype.

4 - Is She With You (Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice)

You had to have a kick-ass theme to introduce the world's most powerful female superhero of all time and for that, you needed a kick-ass background score. Everyone who complained of the dark tone of BvS that put them to sleep were woken up by the arrival of wonder woman, saving Batman's life and going toe to toe with the monster known as Doomsday. This is definitely one of the best moments of the DCEU so far and a lot of that applause will go to Hans and Junkie.

3 - No Time For Caution (Interstellar)

This is the moment when things seemed bleak. After Dr.Mann blew up the endurance, there was nothing but despair in the air both for the audience and Dr.Brand but had Cooper not held his nerve then mankind would have become extinct. With so much tension on whether or not Cooper can dock in such a tricky situation, Hans Zimmer came up with the perfect soundtrack showcasing the tension and Cooper's tenacity. I still don't know why this wasn't a part of the OST list, but it can be found separately on YouTube. Other worthy soundtracks include cornfield chase, stay and where we're going.

2 - Imagine the fire (The Dark Knight Rises)

The dark knight trilogy was appreciated so much for its intense stories and writing. But Hans Zimmer's astounding tracks made it even better. All three films had some brilliant tracks but to me, this is the best of them all. I wanted to go with 'why do we fall' but imagine the fire was way more awesome. It's a shame that they never included this track anywhere in the film, but it's available in the OST list. If you want an intense workout session, a pick me up or just want to enjoy a few minutes of solace, this is the track to go to.

1 - Time (Inception)

When Christopher Nolan and Hans Zimmer are involved in a movie, it's obviously going to blow your mind and your ears. Inception had a very unique style when it came to soundtracks and sound editing. There were some beautiful tracks like 'dream within a dream', '528491' and 'Mombassa' but 'time' is certainly the best of them all. It plays right at the end of the movie and the ending it the most important part of the whole movie because it's left to the viewers to decide whether Cobb is still dreaming or if he's back to reality and this track is certainly the best part of the ending. This is the kind of track that will stay on for decades to come.
