JL episode 1 - Green Lantern

Green Lantern is a one of the most famous DC comics superheroes. He has played an important role in Justice League for years and has a huge fan base. I haven't read any GL comic book but I've been a fan of the character as well. Let me describe what green lantern means to me in the first part of my 5 part character descriptions of the Justice League.

I was first introduced to Lantern because of the Justice League unlimited TV show which aired in Cartoon Network when I was a kid. The version I was introduced to was John Stewart Green Lantern. His love interest in the series was hawkgirl and he was a nice character overall, nothing particularly special about him, but he was likeable.

Over the years, I saw a few iterations of Lantern including the injustice version, Justice League Doom, Justice league Final Frontier, Justice League war and last but not the least, the Ryan Reynolds version. I started to slowly develop a place for Lantern in my heavily crowded fanboy heart. I love that scene between him and Bruce in Justice League war before the huge fight against Darkseid. Little did I know that Hal was as much human as Bruce was. The two of them have more in common than anyone else in the League.

Green Lantern is mainly dependent on his ring which needs to be charged occasionally and he's one of the many Lanterns of the Green Lantern corps, with earth being under his protection. He's powered by will and weakend by fear and anger. Hal's strong will power and concentration are what makes him different than any other human being who could wear the ring. This aspect was covered in depth in Justice League doom, where he's weakened by fear and doubt due to scarecrow's fear toxin.

When it comes to his place in the Justice League, Hal is particularly close to Barry Allen (The Flash) his best buddy. Its going to be interesting to see what the DCEU decides to do with the two of them. I would like to see something as good as what Marvel did with Bucky and Captain America. Hal and Bruce are another fun duo picking up friendly fights and no matter what Hal does, Bruce always complains with the best intentions for him. If you want to know what I'm talking about, check out Justice League War and Justice League: Throne Of Atlantis.

I'm almost one hundred percent sure that we're going to see Hal Jordan in the Justice League movie which is going to drop later this year. We already got a Lantern easter egg in the latest trailer which means there's definitely going to be some information about him or the Green Lantern corps in the movie. It would be really great if they have Lantern saving the day along with Superman in the final battle against Steepenwolf.

Green Lantern is not the favourite hero when it comes to general audiences because of the Ryan Reynolds version in 2011 and one of the reasons behind its failure is the CGI suit. Hopefully DC learns from its mistake. Lantern was trolled by Ryan Reynolds throughout his 'Deadpool' movie which came out last year and the best way to make things right is doing the character some justice by sticking to comic book adaptations and bringing out the best of him. When the animated universe can do such a great job, so should the movie versions.

GL had a cameo in Injustice 2. He was with the Regime in the first part, for all those who don't know what the regime is, it was the evil group of Justice League lead by Superman after his transformation into a villain because of what the joker did to him. Lantern almost became Red Lantern in injustice 2 because of Atrocitus but his will power makes him stay on the good side. He goes through hell and back to get back his green ring from the guardians and had to convince Bruce that he's in his side again and no longer a part of the Regime.

Overall I'm excited to see what DCEU has in store for Green Lantern. Green Lantern Corps movie has been confirmed for 2020 and there's a chance we could see him in Justice League. The rumours for who's playing the character have already begun and I'm a bit disappointed with the fact that Cyborg gets to be part of the League first before Lantern and no matter how cool Cyborg is, this will remain a permanent scar for any Green Lantern fanboy.

Favourite adaptation : Justice League War

Favourite Quote: In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power Green Lanterns light.
